Renovation

Covid delays meant a dream in January 21 took 8 months before I eventually got my hands on an MZ-1500. Owning an MZ-800 I was just expecting a similar machine but in all honesty, the MZ-1500 is much more aesthetically pleasing than the industrial MZ-800. Shape wise they are the same, but the colour and the QD drive just make the difference to set this machine apart.

The renovation involved a full strip-down to inspect and clean every component, service the QuickDisk (QD) drive mechanism, and restore the machine to full working order. The photo sets below document the process from initial disassembly through to the QD drive work.

QD Drive

Re-assembly

Following cleaning, inspection and servicing of the QuickDisk drive mechanism, the MZ-1500 was re-assembled in reverse order of the strip-down. All connectors and ribbon cables were re-seated, the keyboard mechanism was refitted and the case panels were snapped back together. The machine was powered on and verified to be fully functional with the QD drive operating correctly.

Where I have used or based any component on a 3rd parties design I have included the original authors copyright notice within the headers or given due credit. All 3rd party software, to my knowledge and research, is open source and freely useable, if there is found to be any component with licensing restrictions, it will be removed from this repository and a suitable link/config provided.
